Madurai, Oct 24 (UNI) A violent mob ransacked the office of Janata Party President Subramaniam Swamy and attacked the party's district unit President for protesting against his recent anti-LTTE remarks at B B Kulam here this afternoon.

Eyewitness said a 25-member strong mob, said to be members of Revolutionary Youth Front and a group of lawyers armed with sticks, laid sieze to Dr Swamy's office and threw stones smashing window panes.

They later entered the office and damaged tube lights, furniture and attacked the party's district President Purushothaman. The mob also tore the membership forms and uprooted the party's flag mast before fleeing.

The attack was staged before a section of the media.

The mob also shouted slogans against Dr Swamy and demanded that the Centre must deport Dr Swamy from India for his alleged stand against the Sri Lankan Tamils.

On a complaint from the party office bearers, senior police officials rushed to the spot and cordoned off the entire area. A large number of police personnel were deployed to prevent further trouble.

Police have launched a massive hunt to nab the assailants.
