Mysore's first test tube baby born
Mysore, Oct 24 (UNI) The City based Chitra Hospital and IVF Centre has reported the birth of first-ever test tube baby in Mysore.
Speaking to newsmen here today, Hospital CEO Mahesh Kumar announced the girl child was born to Shantha and Ramesh of Hootgalli, near here, two days back. Both, the child and mother, were keeping good health.
The parents, who were childless for about five years, had been advised to consult specialists in Bangalore.
However, the couple approached the hospital which had specialists to assist childless couples through IVF technique.
The procedure began at the hospital two years back when Ms Shantha underwent two surgerires in which the tubes connected to the uterus had been removed, reducing to zero the chance of natural childbearing and birth.
The IVF technique was applied to her by Dr Chitralekha. Dr Mahesh said the technique was applied in India for the first time in 1977 and now, for the first time in Mysore City.
