Heavy rains disrupt Madurai-Tiruchi highway

Madurai, Oct 24: Heavy rains and a road breach following it disrupted the Madurai-Tiruchi highway. The breach at Ayyapatti Vilakku near Kottampatti was so huge that the road became unusable. A new bridge under construction on the nearby four-way carriage way is getting ready for use.

Traffic from Tiruchi towards Madurai was diverted for some time through the Singampunari-Tiruppattur-Melur route but even this arrangement had to be stopped as the Kottampatti-Singampunari road got breached at a few places. This stretch was restored for traffic in the evening. Vehicles could not take the other alternative route, Kottampatti-Natham, to reach Madurai as jungle streams had breached the road at three places.
