Airport authorities avert major accident in city airport

Chennai, Oct 24 (UNI) A major accident was averted at Runway in Chennai Airport last night when a Bangalore-bound 'Paramount' flight was about to collide with a Singapore-bound cargo flight 'Ethiyard' but the timely intervention of airport authorities prevented the mishap.

Official sources said the Paramount flight no I-7 449, took off with 48 passengers from Bay-52 and the Ethiyard flight started off from Bay-7 simultaneously at 2220 hrs. When the crew noticed that their flights were standing in the opposite direction closeby in the air, they alerted the authorities concerned.

The officials, realising the gravity of the situation, arranged for pushing vehicles to separate the two flights and averted the crisis.

The Airport Authority of India(AAI) has ordered for an enquiry as suspicion gained ground that Air Traffic Control(ATC) was responsible for the negligence.
