UHBVN disconnects over 1.19 lakh connections
Chandigarh, Oct 23 (UNI) The Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) has disconnected 1,19,772 connections of the non payers up to October 15.
A UHBVN spokesman today said these consumers had to pay Rs 68 crore out of which a sum of Rs 45.93 crore had already been recovered. The Nigam had targeted to disconnect supply of 4,23,000 non payers during the current fiscal.
The spokesman said the Nigam snapped electricity supply of 28774 non payers in operation circle Ambala, 24001 in Yamuna Nagar, 22059 in Jind, 13152 in Kurukshetra, 7523 in Panipat, 7210 in Karnal, 5956 in Jhajjar, 4660 in Sonepat, 4427 in Kaithal and 2010 in Rohtak.
Intensifying the campaign against pilferage of power, the Nigam detected 5028 cases of theft during this period. A penalty of Rs 7.18 crore was imposed on the erring consumers out of which Rs 3.42 crore had been recovered.
In most of the cases the erring consumers had been stealing electricity through Kundi connections, meter by pass or tampering the meters. The Nigam disconnected the supply immediately and the notices had been served to the erring consumers.
