PPP chairman serious, shifted to hospital in Kashmir

Srinagar, Oct 23 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Political Party (PPP) Chairman Hilal Ahmad War, detained under Public Safety Act (PSA) has been shifted to Police Control Room (PCR) hospital in a serious condition.

Mr War has lost his right eye and his left eye will also lose vision, if immediate treatment was not provided, doctors who attended him in the SMHS hospital said.

A spokesman of the PPP said Mr War was shifted to PCR hospital after he complained of acute pain in the abdomen and both eyes on October 17.

However, he was later shifted SMHS hospital where doctors detected a 5 mm stone in the left side of his kidney.

He said War has lost his right eye sight during an interrogation in Eighties while his left eye was also weak.

The doctors recommended that War should be referred to other hospital for immediate operation of the left eye.

War, was arrested on July 26 after two bomb blasts took place at Gulmarg on July 20 and Batmaloo on July 21 in which several people were killed and scores wounded.

However, on September 9, police claimed to have arrested militants responsible for causing blasts at Gulmarg and Batmaloo in north Kashmir.

On July 21, he had asked minority community, who were allegedly indulging in immoral activities to leave the Valley. However, he said that students, doctors, engineers and other professionals are welcome in the Valley.

A spokesman of the PPP said one of the charge against Mr War was that he has provoked people and also participated in demonstration during the Amarnath land row despite the fact that he was in jail during that period.

Mr War was also charged by the District Magistrate that he had formed an anti-Indian party in 1990. Questioning this charge, the spokesman said at that time Mr War was studying in Bangalore.

He said the only sin committed by Mr War was that he had asked for the reopening of Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road before it was finally thrown open in 2005.

On October 15, the Advisory Board appointed by the Jammu and Kashmir government questioned him in the central jail here.

The Board is authorised to question each detenue arrested under PSA on the orders of District Magistrate. It has to submit its report to government for confirmation of the PSA.
