North Maharashtra delegation meets governor, demands special board

Mumbai, Oct 23 (UNI) A 20-member delegation of legislators from north Maharashtra, representing all the political parties, today met Maharashtra Governor S C Jamir at Raj Bhavan here and demanded a separate Statutory Development Board for the region.

The delegation was led by former Minister Rohidas Patil and comprised of Surupsingh Naik, Sureshdada Jain, Amrish Patel and other representatives from the five districts of North Maharashtra.

Members of the delegation also pointed out that various irrigation projects in the region were held up due to inadequate financial provision. The delegation further pointed out that the five districts of north Maharashtra score low on the Human Development Index and have 23 per cent families living Below Poverty Line (BPL). Members of the delegation also requested that separate backlog of every Tehsil be calculated.

The Governor assured the delegation that he would take up the matter with the Chief Minister and bring to his notice the special problems of the region.
