LS alleges parties using biryani, beer to lure people at meetings
Hyderabad, Oct 23 (UNI) The Lok Satta (LS) party today alleged that biryani packets, beer and gift coupons were used by various political parties to lure people at public meetings.
Briefing the mediapersons here, LS Spokespersons Katari Srinivasa Rao and B Krishna Reddy said in a press release that the gathering at a public meeting had ceased to be an indicator of a party's image among the public as the magnitude of the crowds that turn out for traditional parties' public meeting was directly proportional to the biryani packets, beer and gift coupons they distributed.
Referring to the distribution of gift coupons among women to attract them to a party's public meeting at Proddutur in Kadapa district, they alleged that it merely exposed how most parties had been using people as mere fodder for their political designs.
''A political party should attract the people on the strength of its ideology, agenda and competence of its leadership. Instead, parties have been herding people to public meetings in trucks and buses as if they were a flock of sheep,'' they added.
