Holders Indian Oil, Pak club enter semis of Surjit hockey
Jalandhar, Oct 23 (UNI) Holders Indian Oil and Javed Hockey Club, Gojra (Pakistan) today entered the semi finals of the Silver Jubilee Indian Oil Servo Surjit Hockey Tournament being played at the Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium.
In a pool 'B' league match Javed Hockey Club thrashed Rail Coach Factory (RCF), Kapurthala 11-2 to earn full points. Javed Hockey Club and Bharat Petroleum, Mumbai were both tied at 4 points each in pool-B, but the latter advanced into the semis on a better goal average.
In the last match of the league in pool 'D', last years champions, Indian Oil, Mumbai defeated Crescent Hockey Club, Sargodha (Pakistan) 3-0 to book their berth in the semi finals.
In semi finals, former champions Punjab and Sind Bank, Delhi will cross swords with Air India while Javed Club will face Indian Oil in the second semi fimal.
Javed Hockey Club outplayed RCF in all departments of the game. In the 7 th minute of the game, the Pak team went ahead when Tariq Aziz scored a field goal (1-0) . Khashif Ali increased the lead by converting their fisrt panality corner in the 10th minute (2-0).
Trailing by 0-2 , RCF reduced the margin through Kuljinder Singh who converted their first penalty corner (1-2). In the 19th minute Ranjodh Singh scored a field to equalise the score (2-2). In the 22nd and 25 minute of the game Pak boys scored two goals through Tariq Aziz. At half time Pak team was leading by 5-2.
The second half game was a one sided affair with Javed Club hammering in six more goals. The scorers were Mohamad Sadiq (2 goals), Innayat Ullah, Abdullah Babur (2 goals) and Tariq Aziz.
In the last match of the day, star studded Indian Oil over powered Crescent Hockey Club, Sargodha, which was packed by a number of international players. The goal scorers for the oilmen, who were leading 2-0 at half time, were Vikramjit Singh, Nilesh and Kamlesh Prihar.
