Haryana IG gives clean chit to jail staff
Ambala, Oct 23 (UNI) Haryana IG Jails R C Johl after inspecting the local central jail today stated that he didn't find any lapse or negligence on the part of jail administration with regard to digging up of a tunnel in the condemned prisoner cell.
He said that the tunnel was 3 feet deep and one and a half feet wide. The tunnel was noticed by the jail authorities on Tuesday.
Interacting with the media, Mr Johl said that besides condemned prisoner, Sanjiv Kumar, there were three other prisoners facing death penalty-- Daharam Pal, Anand and Rajan in this jail.
The prisoners who were undergoing life imprisonment were Mohammed Salim and Masood Akhtar.
He said all these six prisoners had hatched a conspiracy to escape from the jail through the tunnel but were caught by the jail staff.
In reply to a question, he said that there was no need to lodge a complaint with the police in this regard. He said that if a fresh FIR was registered the six prisoners would have to be handed over to the police and then there might be apprehensions of their escaping from police custody.
He however, said that investigation in the incident was in progress and the Jail department would reach some conclusion on its completion.
