Four laning of Jalandhar-Kapurthala road begins next month

Kapurthala, Oct 23 (UNI) The work on the four laning of the Kapurthala-Jalandhar road will start next month as a sum of Rs 9.54 crore had been sanctioned under the central road funds scheme .

Disclosing this here today Deputy Commissioner J M Balamurugan said that a bridge over the railway crossing at Wadala Kalan had also been sanctioned and a sum of Rs 36 crore would be spent on it.

Narrating the various development projects undertaken, The DC said the government had sanctioned Rs 7 crore for the construction of a bridge at Kanjali to save the Kanjali Wetland and the drainage department had floated the tenders and the work would be started next month.

He disclosed that discharge of fresh water into the Kali Bein from Mukerian Hydel channel would be increased from 120 cusecs to 500 cusecs to make the rivulet perennial.

He disclosed that desilting on a 12 kilometer long stretch from Kanjali picnic spot to Subhanpur was going on at a war footing as four dragline machines had completed more than fifty percent desilting work .He further disclosed that an approach road would also be constructed from Subhanpur to Kanjali picnic spot.

The DC said Shalimar garden, Kamara bagh , Moorish Mosque and Kanjali picnic spot would also be developed to attract tourists.

He disclosed that a team from United Nations World Tourism Organisation was conducting a survey of the town to promote tourism and its report would be submitted to the government in the first week of November.

He disclosed that administration had received a grant of Rs 67 lakh for the development of Sultanpur Lodhi to bring the city under the pilgrim circuit scheme and the administration had also submitted a plan of Rs 145 crore for the overall development of the town.
