Three trucks from PoK arrive in Poonch, J

Jammu, Oct 22 (UNI) Administration rolled out a red carpet welcome for three goods carriers from the Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) on their arrival at Chakkan-Da-Bagh in Poonch district today.

''In response to symbolic opening of the Poonch-Rawalkot route for trade by India yesterday, three trucks carrying basmati rice, rajmah, vegetables and dried fruit were flagged off by PoK president Raja Zaulqarnain from Rawalkot today,'' said District Commissioner, Poonch, Mohammad Afzal Bhat, who received them along with Dr Kamal Saini, DIG Police (Rajouri-Poonch Range) in the presence of several other prominent people in the district.

He said the truck service for trade would become a weekly feature. ''Goods from J&K will be transported to PoK every Tuesday while from PoK they will come on Wednesday,'' Mr Bhat said.

After 61 years cross-LoC trade began yesterday with Governor N N Vohra flagging off a caravan of 13 goods carriers from Srinagar to Muzaffarabad road.

Similarly, Governor's Adviser H H Tyabji flagged off the first consignment of three trucks at the Chakan-Da-Bagh point on Poonch- Rawalakote road.
