Three killed in rampage by MNS activists at Kalyan
Mumbai, Oct 22 (UNI) Three people were killed in violence in Kalyan township of the neighbouring Thane district last night in the wake of the arrest of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) president Raj Thackeray, who was detained in a lock up in Manpada police station.
Thane Rural Police control room sources confirmed that three people were killed in a rampage by MNS workers at Kalyan, about 60 km from here, owing to the arrest of their leader. However, police declined to give details about the incidents.
Police have imposed section 144 (Unlawful Assembly) of Criminal Procedure Court in Kalyan and deployed three platoons each of Rapid Action Force (RAF) and State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) in Kalyan-Dombivali area.
Irate mob had set several vehicles and shops in Kalyan jurisdication on fire, forcing police to resort to lathicharge to quell the mob and later opened fire to disperse the mob.
