Protest against vandalising Virgin Mary's statues

Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu, Oct 22 (UNI) A large number of Christians staged a demonstration today to condemn the vandalism of Virgin Mary's statues by unidentified miscreants at three places in Munjikkal here.

Led by Rev Fr Peter Fernando, Bishop of Madurai, the demonstrators urged the Tamil Nadu Government to take necessary steps to protect the places of worship from vandalism and punish the guilty severely. Earlier, they came in a procession carrying placards, urging the government to protect the people of minority community and the places of worship.

Meanwhile, the police have launched a massive hunt to arrest the culprits behind the yesterday's incident. No one was arrested so far in this connection.

Unidentified miscreants damaged the statues of Virgin Mary at Carmelpuram, Shenbaganur and near St Joseph Higher Secondary School.
