TN: AIADMK protests against illegal sand quarrying

Karur, Oct 22: Members of the Karur and Tiruchirapalli moffussil district unit of the AIADMK began a day-long fast at Kulithalai on Wednesday, Oct 22, in protest against the illegal sand quarrying in the Cauvery river-bed at Karur and Tiruchirapalli districts. Party organising secretary and former minister M Chinnasamy, who led the fast said illegal sand mining was going on unchecked at Thimmachipuram, Kattalai, Vangal, Nerur, Marudhur, Vathiyam, and Lalapet in Karur district, and at Anbil, Nochiyam, Thiruvengimalai, Ayyampalayam, Musiri, Varadharajapuram and Thottiam in Tiruchirapalli district.

Alleging that sand from illegal mining were sold in Coimbatore, Namakkal and Dindigul disatricts and also in neighbouring Kerala at a higher price, he demanded that the DMK Government immediately stop the illegal sand mining.
