VK Garg takes over as JERC Chairman

New Delhi, Oct 21 (UNI) Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde here today administered the Oath of Office and Secrecy to Dr VK Garg as Chairman, Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) for Goa and Union Territories (UTs), except Delhi.

Prior to his appointment in JERC, Dr Garg held the position of Chairman and Managing Director of Power Finance Corporation Ltd (PFC).

Having begun his career in Indian Economic Service (1973), Dr Garg's career spans a glorious 35 years encompassing the Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Finance, ONGC and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd.

Dr Garg holds degrees in MBA, PhD (Business Administration) and MA (Economics) with specialization in Money and Public Finance.

Set up by the Central Government under the provisions of the Electricity Act 2003, JERC is responsible for determination of tariff, regulation of electricity purchase and procurement process of distribution licensees, facilitation of intra-state transmission and wheeling of electricity, issuance of licences to transmission licencees, adjudication upon disputes, enforcement of standards with respect to quality, continuity and reliability of service by licensees.
