Raj to be first Thackeray to spend night in lock-up

Mumbai, Oct 21 (UNI) Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray will be the first member of the Thackeray clan to spend a night in police lock-up.

Arrested in connection with a rioting case registered against him at Manpada police station in the neighbouring Thane district, Mr Thackeray would have to sleep in jail before he is produced in a local court there tomorrow.

It had been tiring day for the MNS supremo, who was arrested by city police in the early hours today from a circuit house in Ratnagiri, about 500 km from here. He was brought to the city and had to wait for quite some time before he was produced before the Metropolitan Magistrate court in Bandra, which granted him bail.

Subsequently, Magistrate G R Wankhande gave a transit remand to the MNS leader on an application moved by Manpada police, who drove him straight to Manpada from where he was shifted to the Kalyan police lock-up.
