Punjab agencies procured over 62 lakh tonnes of paddy

Chandigarh, Oct 21 (UNI) The five Punjab agencies---Pungrain, Markfed, Punsup, Punjab State Warehousing Corporation and Punjab Agro--have procured 62,03,721 tonnes of paddy out of the total procurement of 68,86,337 tonnes of paddy so far.

The Central Government Agency FCI procured only 90,356 tonnes of paddy and private millers procured 59,2260 tonnes of paddy till yesterday evening, official figures released today stated.

Ferozepur district continued to lead in procurement, with 10,68,942 tonnes of paddy having been purchased so far.

The six government agencies have paid over Rs 4186.14 crores for paddy procured by agencies during first 20 days of current Kharif Marketing Season.
