People throng to see Rahul on his visit to Uttarkashi
Dehra Dun, Oct 21 (UNI) People thronged to catch a glimpse of Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi as he landed by a helicopter in Uttarkashi district of the state.
On the second day of his three-day visit to the state, Mr Gandhi met students in Purola area of Uttarakashi district and after a brief stay there, left for Srinagar to meet students of the HNB Garhwal University.
Mr Gandhi arrived at 1100 hrs in Purola after leaving Almora district of the state.
There he was escorted by a heavy police blanket in the presence of thousands of people waiting to catch a glimpse of the young leader.
The young leader brought back the memories of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi as an old lady said Mr Gandhi resembled his grandmother, while others showered compliments at the Congress' upcoming leader.
After leaving Srinagar, Mr Gandhi would go to Tehri where he would meet Environmentalist Sunderlal Bahuguna and villagers rehabilitated by the Tehri Dam.
Earlier in Almora, Mr Gandhi interacted with farmers and promised to resolve their grievances. Stressing on the importance of education, he said it was important that education reached the grassroots.
During his visit to Ramnagar yesterday, Mr Gandhi said he wanted more women and less privileged sections of society to participate in politics and eradicate the notion that only the rich and those having political patronage were eligible to serve the nation.
