Govt planning to bring legislation to prevent land's misuse

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 21 (UNI) Kerala Revenue Minister K P Ranjendran today said the government was planning to take stringent measures, including bringing in a legislation to prevent the misuse and transfer of lands assigned to tribals, scheduled caste and other poor sections in the state.

Talking to reporters here, he said the government had noted that the lands given to these landless people had reached other people and they once again became landless.

Stating that the government was also considering to include a provision in the law to take action against the persons who snatched such lands from the tribals, he said it was also planning to bring in a legislation to take over the lands leased to plantations which remained closed for several years.

The government would observe November one as ''land protection'' day across the state, he said and added a massive file clearance programme would be held in November and December to dispose off the pending files in various revenue departments.
