DGP inaugurates Punjab's first Model Police Station

Jalandhar, Oct 21 (UNI) Punjab Director-General of Police (DGP) N P S Aulakh today inaugurated the states first Model Police Station, equipped with on-line and computer facilities at Shahkot tomorrow.

The Model Police Station is part of the state governments scheme to open at least one such station in every district of the state.

The Shahkot police station will have advanced facilities and will be equipped with multiple features for the convenience of the public.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Diljinder Singh Dhillon who has been behind the move to change the outlook of the Shahkot police station said that it would be fully computerised, with video conferencing facility. Besides web cams have been installed which will be operated directly from the SSP office and the office of the Malsian DSP.

He said that special software had been installed and through the internet facility anyone could file a request to inquire about his or her FIR status. Passport and arms licence inquiry status reports would also be avaliable on internet.

Mr Dhillon informed an inquiry can also be made through a simple SMS. " The model police station lays emphasis on community policing", he added.

He said that for the smoothing functioning of this police station a Community Advisory Committee (CAC) had been constituted. The advise of the members of this committee would be sought to solve minor disputes as well as community related matters.

A Single Window Reception System has been introduced through which anyone can file a First Information Report (FIR) directly, inquire about the status of their FIR even through phone. A record keeping colour code scheme had been introduced at this police station in order to enable an officer to easily locate information pertaining to different cases just by looking at the colour of the file.

The model police station building has a water harvesting system and trees have been planted in the police station compound to make the atmosphere environment friendly, the DSP stated. A special rural Police Control Room (PCR) would be there for quick response.

The investigatiing officers would have their individual cabins so that they can work in a peaceful environment. The worked load of the whole police station has been divided into 12 beats.
