CM asks Kudremukh Ltd to set up pellet plant
Bangalore, Oct 21 (UNI) The Karnataka Government today asked the State owned Kudremukh Iron Ore Ltd (KIOL) to set up a iron ore pellet plant at Mangalore and the government was ready to sanction captive mines in the state.
The former leading iron ore exporter is now in red following the court ban on mining in ecologically sensitive Kudremukh area in Shimoga District, where it exploited one of the best varieties of iron ore available in the country.
Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa said the state government would extend captive mining lease to Kudremukh if it comes forward to set up the plant in Mangalore.
Meanwhile he said that Kudremukh facility which was now vacant following closure of mining activity could be used for tourism purpose and to house a police facility, a release from Chief Minsiter's secretariat said.
