Witness identifies Ashwin Naik during Neeta Naik murder trial

Mumbai, Oct 20 (UNI) A Delhi-based Architect today identified gangster Ashwin Naik, who is facing charges of conspiracy to eliminate his wife and Shiv Sena Corporator Neeta Naik in the year 2003.

Deposing before the MCOCA (Maharashtra Control for Organised Crime Act) Judge V G Avchat, the witness identified Naik as the man, who had come to her posing as an NRI from Poland and wanted to develop a plot in New Delhi.

The Special Public Prosecutor Jimmy Madan said the accused also indulged in syndicate organised crime, drug business and extortion.

Naik, who was serving sentence in New Delhi's Tihar Jail, was brought here to stand trial in 16 cases, including extortion and attempt to murder. However, police booked him under MCOCA for alleged murder of his wife Neeta Naik, after obtaining sanction from the competent authority.

According to the prosecution, Neeta Naik was gunned down by two assailants outside her residence on November 13, 2003, allegedly at the instance of Naik, who was lodged in Tihar jail at the relevant time.
