Punjab beat Haryana in NZ Inter-State Cricket

Patiala, Oct 20 (UNI) In the North Zone Inter-State one-day cricket tournament (Under-19) for Vinoo Mankad Trophy, Punjab carved out a facile victory over the unfancied Haryana team here today at the Dhruv Pandove Stadium.

Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Punjab were all out for 220 in 47.3 overs. Kunwar Raina played a beautiful knock of 70 which was embellished with five fours.

Sharad Loomba also played a useful knock of 57, which contained five fours and a six to take his team to safety. Yuvraj Singh scored a painstaking 27, facing 38 balls.

The 4th wicket partnership between Kunwar Raina and Sharad Loomba yielded 84 runs.

For Haryana, Ashish Hooda and Yajuvender Chahal captured 3 wickets each, giving away 29 and 43 runs respectively.

Replying to Punjab's total of 220, Haryana were bowled out for a paltry 104 in 40.3 overs on a good batting track. South-paws Abhimanyu (23) and Yatharth Tomar (27) were the only Haryana batsmen who faced the penetrative Punjab bowling with some confidence.

For Punjab, Jaskaran and Gunjot bagged 3 wickets each, conceding 14 and 25 runs respectively.

Punjab's next match is against the formidable Delhi outfit here on October 22.
