Pondy government employees stage demonstration

Puducherry, Oct 20 (UNI) Works in several departments of the territorial administration was paralysed as the government employees staged demonstration to press their demands.

Academic activities in government schools here were also affected as the teachers took out a procession and held a dharna in front of the Head Post Office demanding immediate implementation of the 6th pay commission recommendations and scrapping of the one man commission constituted by the Government to look into the issue for local body employees, Nurses and Teachers.

As the staffs of the central kitchen also stayed away from work and joined the teachers, mid-day meal could not be given to school children and the education department provided bread and milk as an alternative.

Meanwhile, as many as 472 Municipality and commune panchayat employees and Krishi Vigayan Kendra employees, besides 195 members Confederation of the Puducherry State Government employees associations were arrested when they took out seperate processions and attempted to picket the Legislative Assembly to press the same cause.
