Mizo policemen encroaching on Tripura territory
Agartala, Oct 20 (UNI) The Mizoram Armed Police (MAP) have allegedly encroached upon Tripura's territory and set up a camp at Chakmapara under Vangmun police station in Jampui hills area of North Tripura district recently, triggering tension along the interstate border.
Official sources said here today Tripura Rural Development Minister Jitendra Chowdhury toured the village, dominated by Chakma tribesmen, on October 15 and interacted with the villagers, who alleged harassment by the MAP troops.
Later, he discussed the issue with the North Tripura District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police and asked them to prepare a report on the alleged encroachment by the MAP at the earliest.
Subsequently, the DM carried out an investigation and survey at Chakmapara and prepared a report for taking necessary action.
According to the report, the MAP had established a camp at Chakmapara a few months ago violating the territorial limit of Tripura.
The report also mentioned that the MAP was presently functioning from this camp.
''MAP troops posted inside the state have been carrying out frisking of vehicles, causing concern for Tripura police,'' the report stated.
The report would be placed before the Tripura Chief Secretary shortly, who will take up the issue with his Mizoram counterpart, the sources added.
