Literacy rate among the tribals is improving: Government
New Delhi, Oct 20 (UNI) Although the literacy rate of Scheduled Tribes has shown an increase of 17.5 per cent during 1990-91 to 2001 as against the overall increase of 12.63 per cent, there is still a considerable gap between the two, announced the Minister of State for Tribal Affairs, Dr Rameshwar Oraon in a reply in the Lok Sabha today.
He said Ministry of Tribal Affairs through its various schemes has been filling in this gap by facilitating education of Scheduled Tribes. The Ministry of Tribal Affairs supplements the efforts of the Ministry of Human Resource Development which is the nodal Ministry for literacy and education, Dr Oraon added.
