President leaves for five-day visit to Assam, Meghalaya
New Delhi, Oct 19 (UNI) President Pratibha Devisingh Patil left here this morning for a five-day visit to Assam and Meghalaya.
The President, who will arrive in Guwahati in the afternoon, will give away the Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Awards to actor Shabana Azmi and Editor-in-Chief of the Indian Express Shekhar Gupta at a function later in the evening.
Tomorrow, she will give away the Nirmal Gram Puraskar for the North-East region and later lay the foundation stone for Tezpur Medical College.
After visiting Assam, the President will go to Meghalaya on October 22 where Ms Patil will lay the foundation stone of the third phase of the Greater Shillong Water Supply project on the same day.
