Flick brings name to Pinki, but no smile
Mirzapur, Oct 19 (UNI) Smile is fading with every passing day from the face of the little actress who brought fame to her district by hitting the headlines with her lead role in famous Oscar nominated Megan Mylan documentary film 'Smile Pinki.' Pinki, the daughter of Rajendra Sonkar of Rampur Dabahi village in Ahraura area, was born with cleft lips and deformity. The minor was no more than an object of mockery for the villagers.
Megan Mylan spotted the girl and gave her a reason to smile by signing her in his film and getting her treated for her disabilities, besides assisting her in speech.
However, her happiness was short lived and she smiles no more as her parents are poor and cannot afford to treat their ailing daughter, who is running with high fever for a fortnight.
Ironically, the film brought name and fame to the girl, besides presents from her foreign fans, but no money.
After the unexpected blessing, Pinki's family is again in need as they are a big family of seven people and all are depndent on Pinki's father for their daily bread.
Her father is a daily wage worker and earns his bread with much efforts. In such a condition, it was difficult for them to take Pinki to a doctor.
The minor is lying on bed and unable to get treatment as it takes money to visit a medico.
'Smile Pinki' is among the eight documentaries nominated for the Oscar. The film had already acclaimed critics' appraisal on it's premier in the US in June.
