Ultras shifting to urban areas in Jharkhand

Bokaro, Oct 17 (UNI) The ultras of CPI (Maoist) were putting up posters carrying anti-government remarks in the nearby urban areas of the steel city despite frequent raids by security forces in the Naxal-affected Jhumra hill and its surrounding areas .

''The Jhumra hill is known as the den of Maoists. But now, they are trying to make their presence felt in the densely populated areas of Bermo and Chandrapura by displaying posters, '' police today said.

The ultras threw a bomb on a team of police personnel patrolling at Chandrapura railway station on September 24.

The incident created panic among people although no casualty was reported.

Earlier on September 14, August 24 and August 8, the ultras pasted posters in city areas of Chandrapura carrying warnings for the police and their sympathisers.

On December 2, 2006, altogether 13 police jawans were killed in a land mine explosion triggered by the ultras at Bokaro Thermal area.

Similarly, three poilcemen were killed in the Maoist attacks on Bokaro Jharia police outpost under Dugda police station area on March 3, 2006.

On April 14, 2003, armed militants attacked Chandrapura railway station in broad daylight and took away arms of security forces that included 23 rifles.

Suprintendent of Police Priya Dubey said the matter was seriously being dealt, adding operations against the ultras were on.
