Spar launches first supermarket in AP

Hyderabad, Oct 17 (UNI) Spar, the world's largest independent food retail chain today opened its first store in Andhra Pradesh and the third in India.

Spread over 20,000 sq ft and all on one floor, the Spar Supermarket in Hyderabad promises to elevate shopping from a daily chore to a world class shopping experience that also offers value for money. ''We want to take retailing to a new level in India and give the customer something she or he has never experienced before - the finest, freshest quality, widest choice, great value for money and personal and friendly service - all packaged together for a truly enjoyable shopping experience'', said Viney Singh, Managing Director, Max Hypermarkets, which has set up the store by entering into a license agreement with Spar International.

''Shoppers will have the option to choose from a wide array of quality products in every chategory ranging from grocery, fruits and vegetables, bakery, dairy and take away foods, meat, poultry and fish, wine, beer, spirits and tobaccoome textiles, personal care, crockery, utensils and kitchen appliances, travel&IT accessories,'' he added.

Mr Singh said since its launch in India, with a hypermarket and another supermarket at Bangalore in 2008 , the chain has spent Rs 100 crore on its first-three stores in the country. By 2009-end four more stores will be opened and the company has earmarked an investment of Rs 200 crore on its seven stores.

The Managing Director said ''Shoppers can also opt for a wide range of imported products from Europe, South East Asia and Australia, including cheese from Italy, France and the UK, juices from South Africa and a range of tinned foods from around the world. Imported ice-cream Mars and London Dairy was on offer for the first time in Hyderabad and Spar has sought the expertise to lay out the best of Indian wines''.
