Rs 250 cr allotted for procuring medical equipment: Official

Tiruchirapalli, Oct 17 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Government has allotted Rs 250 crore to procure medical equipment for Primary Health Centres (PHCs), taluk and tertiary government hospitals, V K Subburaj, Secretary, Health and Family Welfare said.

Speaking at a function here yesterday, he said the state government had earlier sanctioned an equal amount to improve the medical facilities in all government hospitals.

Stating that 2.2 lakh deliveries were conducted in government hospitals this year, he said a PHC in Vellore district had around 1,000 caesarean sections.

Stressing the need to train doctors with multiple skills, he said more than 100 medical officers in PHCs were trained to take up the role of anesthesia technicians to overcome the shortage.
