Gun shots at Municipal's chairman residence

Imphal, Oct 17 (UNI) Unknown miscreants opened fired at the residence of M Ranisana, chairperson of Imphal Municipal Council (CMC), last night police said today.

There was no injury in the gun shots, police added.

The IMC officials today said the motive behind the firing was not known immediately.

However, a stir was on after the MC decided to evict road side vendors in the market areas. The IMC officials have launched a drive to evict all vendors mostly women selling vegetables on road sides in the city areas.

One of the evicted woman vendors, Th Sanatombi said there were lots of discrepancies in the steps taken up by the MC. She said most of the women were poor farmers earning their livelihoods by selling vegetables for last three decades. The government should arrange an alternative place for them, she added.

In another incident two suspected militants were apprehended by troops of the 32 Assam Rifles during an operation at Lilong bazaar, Thoubal district yesterday.

The suspects, identified as Md Shiekjiouddin and Md Amzet Ali, have been handed over to local police.
