Artillery unit leaves for Congo on UN mission
New Delhi, Oct 17 (UNI) Unit 169 Fd Regt (OP HILL) today proceeded to Congo, Africa, as part of the Indian Brigade there and became the country's first artillery unit to be nominated for a United Nations mission.
As a rare honour, 169 Fd Regt (OP HILL), will be part of the United Peace Keeping Mission MONUC in Congo.
The honour comes due to its consistent outstanding performance since its raising on November 1, 1963.
With the individual award tally of 90 awards (02 Shaurya Chakra, 17 Sena Medal, 02 Mentioned-in-despatches, 41 COAS Commendation Card, 01 VCOAS Commendation Card and 27 GOC-in-C Commendation Card), the Regiment is the highest decorated Artillery unit of Indian Army.
