Christian Munnetra Kazhagam urges PM to talk to Lankan Prez

Chennai, Oct 16 (UNI) The Christian Munnetra Kazhagam (CMK) today urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to talk to Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa and stop the alleged genocide against Tamils there.

CMK Founder-President S Joseph Fernando said the Kazhagam's Parliamentary Committee, which met here today, adopted a resolution, urging the Centre to prevail on the Lankan government to stop the attack on the Tamils and pave way for a negotiated settlement.

He said Indian fishermen could be saved from the attacks of Sri Lankan Navy, only if the Centre and state governments take steps to retrieve Katchateevu from Sri Lanka.

Condemning the attacks on Christians and their places of worship in Orissa, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu, Mr Fernando urged the Centre and the respective state governments to take stern action against the culprits.

He said the committee decided to invite AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa for the celebrations to mark, the silver jubilee of CMK, Christmas and his 35 years in public life.
