Tamil Nadu tourism to offer four packages for Upiites
Lucknow Oct 15 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Tourism, in order to woo the domestic tourists from Uttar Pradesh, is considering to start attractive package tours from the state.
Showcasing the tourism potential of Tamil Nadu, Commissioner Tourism and managing director Tamil Nadu Tourism development Corporation M Rajaram said here today that out of a total of 524 lakhs tourists who visited the state in 2007, the maximum 10.50 lakh were from Uttar Pradesh.
'' Of the total tourists from UP, most of them visit Rameshwaram and Kanyakumari,'' he added.
Talking to reporters here, Mr Rajaram said now the department was focusing on UP and would soon chalkout attractive package tours for TN from UP.
He also announced to open a TN tourist center here very soon to enable the pilgrims and tourists visiting South India to get a first hand information about the available facilities there.
'' At present there is a tourist center at Agra in the state and the package tours are conducted from New Delhi or Jaipur in northern India'', he said.
The TN tourism commissioner said the tourists and pilgrims centers of TN included the ones at Kanayakumari, Rameshwaram, Chennai, Ooty and other places.
'' Of the 26 UNESCO declared heritage sitdes, five sites-- Mamallapuram, Thanjavur, Darasuram, Gangaikondacholapuram and Nilgiris Mountain Rai-- are in Tamil Nadu'', he stated.
