Premji Foundation to train teachers
Bengaluru, Oct 15: Azim Premji Foundation will set up a university, aimed at creating a pool of education professionals and to develop teacher educators and academic resource. The country has 13 lakh schools and 55 lakh teachers.
"We need various kinds of professionals in education, teacher educators and education managers. The university will also do a lot of education related R&D. The aim is to bring about systemic changes in education delivery. The finer details of the project are still being worked out," said Dileep Ranjekar, CEO, Azim Premji Foundation. Azim Premji Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of IT major Wipro, recently expressed interest in setting up a private university in Karnataka.
The foundation, which has been working with the education department in the state assisting the government in facilitating computer literacy among school children, was now eyeing on setting up a university to train teachers and others involved in education.
