Harisingh Rathod demands implementation of Renke commission report
New Delhi, Oct 15 (UNI) Expelled BJP MP Harisingh Rathod today reiterated his demand that UPA government should implement the recommendations of the Balkrishna Renke commission report giving special status to nearly 15 crore people falling in the category of denotified and notified tribes (DNT) spread among 350 castes all over the country.
Speaking at a rally here, Mr Rathod said the DNTs did not get their due since the last sixty years. However, Mr Renke, in his report submitted to the UPA government recently, has recomended that these people should be given reservations in education and government services.
Rathod, a Banjara himself, was elected as BJP MP from Yavatmal constitiency of Maharashtra in 2004 general elections but abstained from the confidence motion which was tabled recently in the Lok sabha. BJP immediately expelled him from the party.
He had shared dais with Maharashra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh giving all indications that he is all set to join Congress.
Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Ajit Jogi also attended today's meeting and assured him all support in his demand.
Manohar Ainapure, MLA from Karnataka and several others also spoke on the occasion.
