Enrollment ratio to be enhanced
Puducherry, Oct 15 (UNI) Union Minister of state for Human Resources Development M A A Fatmi today said the Centre would enhance the enrollment ratio in higher education from the present ten per cent to 15 per cent in the 11th five-year plan period.
Inaugurating ''Prakriti'' a festival of Indian Documentary Films on Enmvironment, Development and Human Rights, jointly organised by the Consortium for Educational Communication (CEC), New Delhi and the Pondicherry University here today, the birthday of Mr Fatmi, he said during the 11th plan period, seven million more students would have to be accommodated.
The CEC had to play an important role in achievening the targeted gross enrollment ratio, he said.
He said with the advancement of compression technology, several educational channels had been introduced by the MHRD to provide knowledge resources on TV for 24 hours to students, teachers and common people.
However, these channels were not able to reach the peopel to the extent expected due to indifferent attitude of cable operators in the country, he said, adding educational channels might soon become part of the DTH boquet of Doordarshan so that knowledge could reach people in their homes.
