Youth set afire by beloved's family dies

Sangrur, Oct 14 (UNI) A youth who was set afire by his beloved's family in Ahmadgarh Mandi, today succumbed to injuries in a hospital. According to police, the boy, Karan Sharma, 21, who had sneaked into his girlfriend's house in night to meet her, was caught by her father, Kuldeep Singh, who confined him into a room and later with the help of his relatives, set him afire early Sunday.

Hearing his cries for help, the neigbours informed the police, which rushed Karan to a local hospital.

Karan, who had sustained 60 per cent burn injuries, was referred to DMC Ludhiana where he died today.

Police, on the basis of statement given by the victim, have registered a case against the girl's father and his brother-in-law Jagdev Singh and his son Kamaljeet Singh.

However, no arrests have been made so far.

The deceased boy's family members have threatened to launch a protest, if the absconding accused were not arrested soon.
