Medicos to stage stir against ultras attack
Imphal, Oct 14: The medicos of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) have called for a cease-work on October 16 to protest the frequent attacks on doctors by suspected militants.
The executive members of RIMS's Teachers and Medical Officers' Association, the Junior Doctors' Association, the Non-Teaching Employees' Association and the Trained Nurses Association, in a joint statement on Tuesday, Oct 14 said the OPD, routine operations and casualty services would be temporarily discontinued for 24 hours from 0900 hrs on October 16.
The staff of RIMS informed that some unknown people fired at the residence of Dr T Yumajaobabu at Kwakeithel Mayai Koibi Ningthoujam Leikai on Sunday night and injured a girl.
The girl was out of danger, hospital sources said, adding the doctors were asked to cough up a huge amount of money by a militant outfit.
In a similar incident at Kwakeithel Moiangpurel Leikai here, some miscreants opened fire at the residence of RIMS Assistant Professor ( Surgery) Dr Manoharmayum Birkumar.
