Four debt-ridden farmers commit suicide in Vidarbha
Nagpur, Oct 14 (UNI) Four debt-ridden farmers committed suicide in the past 48 hours in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra, activists said today.
According to Vidarbha Jan Andolan Samiti (VJAS), a voluntary organisation working among farmers in the region, the four who ended their lives included three from Yavatmal district and one from Gondia district.
The ongoing agrarian crisis in Vidarbha had worsened because of the dip in prices of cotton and soyabean, a VJAS release said.
The government should provide food and health security to the depressed farmers in the region, VJAS said.
The organisation would shortly approach the High Court with the demand, it added.
