EC announces polls in 5 states, counting of votes on Dec 8
New Delhi, Oct 14 (UNI) Assembly polls in Delhi and Mizoram will be held on November 29, Madhya Pradesh on November 25, Rajasthan on December 4 and in two phases in Chhattisgarh on November 14 and 20, with the mandate of the people in the mini general election being known on December 8.
Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalaswami told a news conference here today that the EC, however, had not taken any decision regarding the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly polls.
BJP vs Congress contests are expected in the polls in Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.
In Mizoram, the Congress will take on the ruling Mizo National Front in a three-cornered contest.
In Chhattisgarh, the first phase of polls will cover 39 Assembly seats and the second 51 others.
There are 230 Assembly seats in Madhya Pradesh, 40 in Mizoram, 70 in Delhi and 200 in Rajasthan.
He said the Commission is still assessing the situation in Jammu and Kashmir and a decision will be taken later.
With the announcement of election schedule, the model code of conduct will come into force in all these states with immediate effect, he added.
