CRPF jawan hacked to death in Kandhamal
New Delhi, Oct 14: There is no let-up in violence in Orissa's Kandhamal district. Some villagers on Tuesday, Oct 14 hacked a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan in Kandhamal to death, police say.
The incident happened in the Raikia area when Baksish Singh, a 40-year-old CRPF jawan from Assam, had gone to the village to get some cooking materials along with a colleague. However, the villagers thought the duo had come to arrest some people and they attacked the two jawans. The locals are already angry that there is a huge CRPF presence in the area. In fact, a tussle between locals and CRPF personnel was reported at Daringbadi on Monday, Oct 13 during a bandh called by Left parties and tribal organisations. The CRPF personnel had also resorted to lathi charge on the protestors.
Kandhamal has been witnessing anti-Christian violence for the past couple of months following the killing of VHP leader Swami Laxmananda Saraswati and four others on August 23.
