TN NFIW to hold demos on price rise
Tiruchirapalli, Oct 13: The Tamil Nadu Unit of the Communist party of India (CPI)-affiliated National Federation of Indian Women (NFIW) has decided to launch a three-phase agitation to press their charter of demands, including steps to check price rise, according to its State Secretary P Padmavathy,MLA.
Addressing the press here yesterday, she said the NFIW will hold State-wide propaganda campaign in 500 centres all over Tamil Nadu on October 20, 21 and 22.
She said the rising prices of essential commodities had severely hit the general public and appealed to the government to have a policy to control the price rise.
Ms Padmavathy said the campaign would be followed by demonstrations in all district headquarters in support of their demands in November followed by "Jail Filling" agitation in December. The organisation members would take part in large numbers in the agitations.
She also wanted the government to ban online trading of essential commodities besides imposing a ban on entry of MNCs and corporate giants in retail trading.
She also urged the government to take firm steps to check hoarding and smuggling of commodities and constitute a committee comprising people's representatives to ensure there was no scarcity in the supply of essential commodities to the public through the fair price shops.
