1 killed, 10 injured as slab of building collapses

Vijayawada, Oct 10 (UNI) One person was killed and 10 others were injured when a slab on the first floor of an old dental college building collapsed on them as they were engaged in the demolition work of the building here today.

Police said the deceased was identified as Rasheed (18) from Uttar Pradesh. Another labourer was reportedly under the debris and efforts were on to rescue him.

The injured were admitted to the Goverment General Hospital here.

Some received multiple injuries and other suffered fractures. One of the injured was in a critical condition, police added.

City Police Commissioner K V Rajendranath said a case would be registered against the contractor.

The first floor of the three-storeyed building was being demolished after the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSTRC) gave the land to Vitri Venture to construct a shopping complex, police added.
