Sheila Dikshit Govt has transformed Delhi in every respect: Agarwal
New Delhi, Oct 12 (UNI) Claiming that the Sheila Dikshit Government in Delhi had transformed the city in every respect in the last ten years, the Delhi Pradesh Congress committee president Jai Prakash Agarwal has expressed confidence that the Congress will win the polls to the Delhi Legislative Assembly scheduled in December.
''I think the Congress will win the Assembly polls on its performance of good governance,'' Mr Agarwal said in an interview to the Congress mouthpiece 'Sandesh'.
In the interview, published in the September issue of 'Sandesh', Mr Agarwal said, ''In the past ten years, the Sheila Dikshit Government has transformed Delhi in every aspect. We have focussed on development and kept our promises.
''We have built flyovers, roads, improved the delivery of water and electricity and provided more schools and hospitals, thus keeping the welfare of the citizens uppermost in our governance,'' he said.
Listing the other achievements of the Delhi Government in its tenure, Mr Agarwal said, ''We have also legalised the 1639 unauthorised colonies and provided infrastructure to the poorest of the poor in the city. We have passed the scheme to turn the Bawana jhuggis into houses.
''We have focussed on strengthening the Bhagidari scheme and the interaction with resident welfare committees so that the needs and demands of the people can be fully incorporated in the process of policy making.'' The DPCC president said as the party president, he had undertaken several steps to strengthen the party organisation.
''I have refused to support factionalism of any sort. Nor have I tried to form my own group. I have tried to strengthen the party work culture and encourage our workers to regularly interact with the people and listen to their problems.
''I have also used training sessions meetings to familiarise our workers with the many schemes that the Government has initiated for their welfare such as the RTI and the NREGA,''Mr Agarwal said.
