Chennai, Oct 12 (UNI) Will he take the proverbial plunge or not?. Amid mounting pressure and the threat of an indefinite fast from his thousands of fans, this is the million dollar question that needs to be answered by Tamil Superstar Rajnikanth.
With a view to exert more pressure on the charishmatic actor to start a political party and take a plunge into the world of politics, his fans today convened a meeting in the city and threatened to launch a fast-unto-death until he forays into politics.
Though Rajnikanth fans had been demanding his entry into politics for the last two months, it gained momentum over the last few days when they pasted posters across Tamil Nadu and also floated a party and released the flag in Coimbatore.
As Rajni himself had been maintaining a discreet silence, one of his numerous fans, Rajni Babu, who was reportedly expelled from the fans Association, had floated an organisation, christened as ''Desiya Dravidar Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam'' (DDMMK) and released the party flag in red, white and black - featuring Rajni's face inside a shining star.
Amid this, reports started doing the rounds that the actor himself would have an interaction with his fans association members during the first week of this month.
Meanwhile, the unrelenting office-bearers of the fans association from various districts, including Madurai, Tiruvallur, Tiruchi, Theni, Villupuram and Kancheepuram, convened a meeting in the city today to discuss their future course of action.
At the meeting, they decided to submit a memorandum to Rajni, urging him to enter politics and also planned to launch an indefinite fast.
An office-bearer of the association said it is our desire that Rajni enter politics.
''Every political party wants Rajnikanth's support during the elections. But after the polls, they ignore him. The need of the hour is that Rajni should start his own political outfit'', he said, adding, the meeting decided to launch an indefinite fast across Tamil Nadu, till the actor yields to their demand.
Rajni, who was busy shooting for the film 'Eindhiran' in Goa, was likely to meet the fans on October 15 and listen to their grievances, sources close to (Sathyanarayana), President of Rajnikanth Fans Welfare Association said.
Fans hope that the answer to the million dollar question would come on October 15.
