Inspector General of Indian Coast Guard visits Porbandar
Porbandar, Oct 12 (UNI) Inspector General Rajendra Singh, Commander Coast Guard Region (West), today carried out an aerial survey of the sensitive Northern Coast of Gujarat by an Advanced Light Helicopter.
Briefing mediapersons here, Singh informed that these advanced helicopters with longer endurance, have been positioned here after the start of fishing season to augment the Coast Guard force level. Till date, about 383 fishing boats straying into foreign waters have been directed to Indian waters, he said.
In addition, the Coast Guard have distributed distress alert transmitters free of cost to fishermen to find out the position of distress and render timely assistance.
He said a pilot project also for deep sea vessel monitoring system is being built at Coast Guard district Headquarters for keeping a watch on the deep sea trawlers.
In addition, coast guard is also carrying out various community interaction programmes in fishing villages, apprising them about safe fishing methods, he said.
The commander expressed his satisfaction over the coast guard operations in the state and assured that all efforts will be undertaken to ensure the safety of those at sea and security of the coast of Gujarat.
