Challenge of Jammu schools end in CBSE basketball

Chandigarh, Oct 12 (UNI) The challenge of Jammu schools ended in the 11th CBSE Cluster XIII Inter-School Basketball Championship being played at the New Public School (NPS) courts here.

IS Dev Samaj School of Sector 21, Chandigarh, who got a bye into the quarter-final, outplayed K C Public School, Jammu by 44-4.

Sushma (20) and Navdeep (6) combined well to score points from all angles for the winners. Monica got two points for the losers.

IS Dev will now face Carmel Convent, Sector 9, Chandigarh in the semi-final.

Carmel Convent defeated Guru Nanak Public School, Sector 36, by 15-6. Shabnam (5), Aunchal (4) were the winners' main scorers.

JK Public School of Jammu went down fighting to formidable Sacred Heart, Sector 26, by 24-38. Both fought tooth and nail in the first quarter-final which ended in a 10-all draw. The tough fight continued in the second quarter but Carmel Convent won by a narrow margin of two points (12-10).

In a low-scoring third quarter, JK Public School won it by 4-2.

Sacred Heart maintained their pressure and claimed the fourth quarter by 14-0. Sacred Heart's main scorers were Sukhmani (18) and Jyoti (5). For Jammu school Ayushi contributed six points.

In the fourth quarter-final, hosts New Public School, Sector 18, Chandigarh, outplayed Bhawan Vidalaya (BV), Sector 27, Chandigarh by 20-5. Smiti (6) and Megha (5) were the principal scorers for the winners. Aman contributed three points out of five scored by BV-27.
